My first experience around women on their period was when my older sister got hers. She had been in her room all day before she decided to come out and watch some TV. I was upset because she changed channels without asking and so I did what any annoying sibling would do and changed it back. She cried and was frustrated with me before my mother had to step in; my sister really wanted to just have time doing something she likes and take her mind off her pain. It took a lot to empathize at that age but years later, I always try to be mindful and respectful of any discomfort women might feel. It’s a natural part of life and as men, we have to step up and maturely support our better halves, coworkers and family – even if its as simple as changing a channel!
